Fit for Life
We insist a meticulous fit because that's what we're known for, THE PERFECT FIT!
We ask homeowners that chose to go with Plain & Fancy what the most important factors were when making that decision. Repeatedly the answers came back; fit and finish, fit and finish. Finish, of course, is the lifeblood of any custom cabinet project, and if you'd like more details on our finish process check out this previous about cabinet finishes. Here we will be focusing entirely on the fit.
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY FIT?
I'll explain, but that will require a quick review of flush and beaded inset cabinets.
Mortise and tenon construction refers to the joint that is created by combining the two pieces of a front frame. When cabinet doors and drawers are built to fit inside the front frame, this is what is known as flush inset cabinetry (shown in above left image). The frame can also be decorative, with beaded detail added to the stiles (front frame sides) and rails (front frame top and bottom). When cabinet doors are laid inside this more decorative frame, that is what is known in the industry as beaded inset (shown above right). For more information check out this post about Framed vs. Frameless cabinet styles.
For all of our flush inset and beaded inset cabinets, we hand fit the doors and drawers to their corresponding openings in the front frame.
Then each door and drawer is individually numbered for full assurance that it will fit precisely in the opening for which it was made (see images below). For those of you who have Plain & Fancy cabinets in your home you can see this for yourself. On our base cabinets this number is on the bottom of the door or drawer whereas on the wall cabinets it is on the top of the door or drawer.
Our philosophy and methodology haven't changed in over 45 years — find out more by watching this short video to see why Plain & Fancy custom cabinetry is fit for life.
