Contemporary Cabinetry that Goes Against the Grain
Filed Under: Contemporary Cabinets | Kitchens
Shana Strauss, of Millbrook Cabinetry & Design, designed this contemporary kitchen which was picked as the winner of our 2015 dream design contest. This kitchen doesn't fit the mold of most contemporary spaces. Brimming with warm wood tones it certainly is not the dull and sterile contemporary style that is unappealing to many homeowners.
A Quaker door was chosen to support the minimalist feel of the room. The cabinetry is finished in bisque, a lighter stain finish, to allow the grain of the maple wood to show through. A modern stainless hood, a refrigerator unit and black countertops provide contrast, giving this space more depth and interest. An open front cabinet, sandwiched between the oven and refrigerator, is utilized for decorating or displaying collectibles or family heirlooms. The focal point of the space is the large kitchen island. With a built in cooktop and ample counter space it provides quite the workspace.
Both fun and function, the soft glow of the under cabinet lighting complements the kitchen's pleasant tones. Sometimes going against the grain is more than adequate. Sometimes its delightful, as demonstrated by this warmer toned contemporary kitchen.
Double islands provide ample space for work and food prep as well as seating for family and friends.
Contemporary elements like this stainless steel hood and streamlined design are paired with traditional elements for a style that is quite unique.
Beaded paneling on the ceiling is finished in bisque on maple to match the look of the cabinetry.
This kitchen is flooded with natural light producing a brighter, warmer feel for the space.
Warm wood tones help set this kitchen apart from typical contemporary designs.
